Founder of The Free Software Movement, Richard Matthew Stallman insists that the free software movement and Open Source Software is now echoed in the world, is not harmful to the software business.
"There's nothing to be afraid of the movement and the open source community. Business software development (developing software-red) will still run," said Stallman, who was visiting Indonesia on 18 October to 2 November in a speech to the Free Software Movement, in Jakarta, Wednesday.
According to him, a software development business specializing in a particular customer need software that is customized or tailored to the needs.
These types of different software with the operating system software that must exist to run the computer and is mass (eg Microsoft Windows Vista - red), he said.
"For this operating system, choose a free. You get a lot of advantages with this," said U.S. hacker's famous home.
Stallman launched the GNU Project in 1984 based on free software and Linux operating systems bear-free access (free) to anyone and open source code (open source) that can be developed into a variety of other software programs.
Schools teach
He therefore recommended that every school in Indonesia, teaching information technology subjects who use software with open source code and not just buying proprietary software (licensed and paid).
"The reason why should be, first is money. The school would not have the money to buy proprietary software. Unfortunately, many schools do not understand and continue to use, what else was so vigorous promotion," he said.
The next advantage for schools using open source software is making all students to be programmers in which they are allowed to learn the source code of the software and then learn to change and add-nambahnya, he said.
"Only with Free Open Source Software you might like it. Why would buy something secret and makes you just as continuous users," he said.
Benefits for governments, especially in developing countries, he added, is the independence from dependence on developed countries.
He assumes that the U.S. wants to attack Venezuela through its information systems.
"It's very possible, so why do not they try to protect themselves by not depending on other countries," he said while stressing the importance of the philosophy of freedom (freedom) of movement diusungnya the Free Software Movement.
