Fixing the Master Boot Record Error, On Your PC

>> Thursday, January 14, 2010

Actually what is meant by the MBR? MBR stands for "Master Boot Record" which is on the first sector of hard disks and has a function to store information about operating system and then be read by the BIOS.

Damage to the MBR is usually caused by the operating system is damaged, so the computer can not call the operating system to run. Usually an error message is displayed because of damage to the MBR are:

Error loading operating system
Missing operating system
 Invalid partition table

Maybe most of us never find an error message like above. What do we do if you have the above items? The easiest way, of course do reinstall or repair it? But many things that will harm us. The first, we will experience loss of data, especially if all the data stored in My Document. The second we will also lose the applications that are installed along with drivers. Also tired of having to do it again.

If you do not want to suffer, we should first try to make improvements to the MBR. For that let us make improvements in Windows XP and Vista.

Windows XP

1. Make sure the BIOS Boot order is directed to the CD-ROM.

2. Boot the computer using the Windows XP Installation CD. If the screen welcome to set-up has appeared, select the Repair option or simply by pressing the R button on the keyboard.

3. The next process we are asked to enter the location number where the operating system. Usually we choose the number 1. Then press enter. Then enter the administrator password (should know).

4. At the command prompt, type fixmbr. Damage to the MBR now been repaired. Your computer is now using a new MBR. You may also want to run the command fixboot to repair the boot sector with a new one. Now try to restart your computer hard disk through.

Should be noted, make sure you only use this command on a system with one operating system installed. If you have more than one operating system installed, fixmbr and fixboot can derail everything.

Windows Vista

1. First thing is to boot the computer with the Windows Vista disc.

2. Select language, time, currency, etc, and then click Next. Then click on "Repair Your Computer."

3. Select the operating system that will be corrected, and then click Next. If the dialog screen appears "System Recovery Options" select Command Prompt.

4. Type Bootrec.exe and press Enter. This process will improve the boot configuration data. We can also add the option (/ fixmbr), if only to improve and master boot record (/ fixboot) if you just want to fix the boot sector.
